Veteran's Day

Today was a great day to recognize those who have served our country!  We had a special parent guest who visited with us about his service in the Navy.  Students learned about daily jobs on the ship, food that is served and even the small sleeping spaces.  This veteran explained to our class how important our soldiers and veterans are to our country.  We know that the sacrifices made are for our protection and our freedom.  Thanks to our special guest!  We enjoyed our visit!!!

We made red, white and blue hats to wear to the Veteran's Day program!

We had many veterans visit our school today!  We were proud to meet them!

Our 4th grade sang many patriotic songs!

It was a great day to be an AMERICAN!

Miss Spiders Tea Party

We enjoyed reading Miss Spider's Tea Party!

Miss Spider wants to have a tea party. She sets a beautiful table and waits for someone to fly by. She invites ladybugs, ants, bees, and other insects that fly by, but none of them “would dare to share a tea with anyone so spidery.” None of the bugs will have tea with her because they are afraid she is going to eat them, but all she wants is to have a nice tea with friends. After she rescues a rain-drenched moth, unable to fly until he dries out, word spreads of Miss Spider’s friendly intentions. Eleven insects finally join Miss Spider for tea. “Her friends were glad to watch her feast upon the floral centerpiece. It was a great relief to see she ate just flowers and drank just tea.”

We have lots of "Spidery" friends!

We learned facts about spiders. We know that a spider can have have 8, 6, 4, 2, or No eyes. Spiders have eight legs and belong to the arachnid family. They are NOT insects. Spiders can be very useful as they eat flies and other insects, however, we know to never touch a spider. 

We will only look and observe such unique creatures.

A little bit about me...

Hello! My name is Ginny Janak and this is my 12th year of teaching. I graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in the field of early childhood education. I also hold a Masters of Education in Leadership and Policy Studies. After 11 years of teaching kindergarten, two moves and a lot of soul searching, I am teaching 1st grade and I still don’t have all of the answers! :)

But, what I do know is that I am so blessed to have two beautiful children, a wonderful husband and family and friends I can always count on. As I reflect on my life, most of my experiences have involved teaching and guiding others. I have been drawn to working with children and feel that it is a gift to be able to influence their lives in a positive way!

I am three weeks in and am starting to get settled. There are so many ideas, tasks and lessons I want to tackle and there is just not enough time in the day! I am working on balancing my life! I know now, that I cannot not do it all, but it is most important to do what counts…the BEST! That is “building relationships” with my family, children, friends and MY STUDENTS!

We may not have it all together all the time, but we have it all. And we have each other! I am so excited to be on this journey and look forward to what it is going to bring to my life, but most importantly what I can do to change the lives of others around me!
