We had lots of insects in our room today!
We are having fun learning about insects!
We know that insects are living things just
like us! We have learned that insects
are animals that need food and air. There are many types of insects. We learned that some live in the water, in trees or on leaves and on the ground. We also learned that most insects lay eggs in
many different places.
We learned that almost all “grown-up” insects have six legs and
they have three body parts (head, thorax and abdomen). We learned that some insects can hide by camouflaging
themselves.
We also learned that some
insects change as they grow! We learned
about metamorphosis!
Our favorite
changing insect is the butterfly!
Butterflies begin as a caterpillar and make a special case called a
chrysalis before they become a beautiful butterfly! We can be butterflies, too!
Maygan brought her ant farm!
We learned that ants live in large families and each ant has a special
job to do. Some ants are soldiers!
We love ladybugs!
They also change as they grow! We
learned that ladybugs come in many colors and huddle together to keep warm in
the winter! Ladybugs wake up in the
spring!
Nathaniel had a special ladybug home!
Ila brought a whole family of ladybugs!
We learned that the pill pug or roly-poly is not an
insect. It is an isopod which is a small
segmented land creature. The roly poly
can roll into a tiny ball for protection!
We like to play with pill bugs!
Jayla found a beetle and a roly poly!
Lukas has three pill bugs!
Karlie likes roly polys, too!
We decided to let some of our bugs go and keep some to study, like scientists! We like to use magnifying glasses to take a closer look!
Insects are interesting creatures! We know there are some insects that may harm
us, but if we leave them alone they will leave us alone too!
We love bugs!
