C is for Carrot

We learned all about letter "C" this week. We made a caterpillar, a cat and a carrot with blending words! We had fun learning about carrots! The carrot is really a "taproot". We learned that this means it is a big, main root that grows straight down into the ground. Along it's sides, little roots grow, too. We learned that roots are really important! They keep the soil around the plant. And almost all roots conduct water from the soil up to the plant!

More Garden Fun

We had fun watering the plants!
Some or our garden friends planted a passion vine and cilantro. It's fun to observe everything growing!
We love the GARDEN!

Science with the Quirkles

Last week when we learned letter “P” we also met Pressure Pete. We learned that air moves from an area of high pressure to an area of low pressure. We used drinking straws to conduct Pressure Pete’s experiment. Our special helpers put two straws in their mouths. They put one straw in a glass of water and kept the other straw outside the glass. We learned that when you have a straw outside the glass, it will continue to bring air inside your mouth. This keeps the air pressure the same both inside and outside your mouth. Therefore, it causes it to be very difficult to get the water up the straw and into your mouth!!
This week our Quirkle friend, Colorful Caroline, taught us about primary and secondary colors. We learned how to make a “Floating Rainbow” and watch the colors “EXPLODE”! First, we poured water into a jar and then poured cooking oil over the water. We put a few drops of different food colorings into the oil. We learned that food coloring and water will mix, but food coloring and oil will not mix. The oil floats on top of the water and the drops of food coloring sink through the oil. The drops burst into colors when they hit the water! This was a fun experiment. Thanks Colorful Caroline!!
