Dr. Jean is the BEST!!!
Last week I was able to learn some new tricks and techniches about activating the children's brain. Dr. Jean always has refreshing ideas!
Dr. Jean believes...
Learn on your feet and not on your seat.
Get ‘em up and get ‘em movin’.
90% of kids learn best by doing
Music is the most convenient way to learn anything.
Children need frequent “brain breaks” and “exercise snacks”!
Teachers can have fun too!!
Get that blood flowing, get your heart going, move those arms and legs and WAKE UP your BRAIN!

Thank You!
As we come to the end of these nine weeks I would like to thank all parents for your continuous support at school and at home. The interaction you have with your child allows for great success. Please continue to encourage learning at home through reading and homework. With your help, your child will continue to have a great year. Please return the conference note so that we can schedule a progress conference for your child. I am looking forward to meeting with you.
Thanks for your support!

Fun with Letter "T" and TORNADOS
We met this week's Quirkle friend, Timothy Tornado! "The thing Timothy does best is teach his friends about tornados and tornado safety." We learned that a tornado begins when a cold air mass blows over a warm air mass. According to the Quikles, "After time, the hot air finds a weak spot in the cold air and shoots up like a fountain in the sky. This creates a mighty, whirling wind."
Timothy Tornado's Mini Tornado
We filled a bottle with water, added two drops of dish detergent and a teaspoon of glitter. We took turns turning the bottle upside down and rotating it in a clockwise motion. We found that the circular motion of the bottle created the appearance of a tornado.
Tornados can be very dangerous! We learned how to stay safe in a tornado by taking cover!!!
The Quirkles Series were written by Terri Johnson and Sherry Cook and published by Frog Street Press.

We learned about kinetic energy (motion)!
We read about Mary Motion and met the Quirkles. We love to explore phonics through science!!! Mary motion and her other "M" friends had a marble race to see which marble rolled the farthest.
We had our own marble race!!
We set up two ramps using blocks. One ramp was twice as steep as the other one. We predicted that the taller ramp would be the fastest. We took turns rolling the marbles down the ramps to see which marble rolled the farthest.
Conclusion:
We learned that the marble that rolls down the steepest ramp travels the farthest. The higher the ramp the more energy the marble has to change motion!
This was FUN!!! We can't wait to meet our next "Quirkle" friend!
